The alleged rape incident at Moi Girls School in Nairobi has continued to elicit mixed reactions with different stakeholders calling for speedy investigations into the matter.
On Monday, the investigations gained momentum after five more male teachers and two subordinate staff were directed to give their DNA samples for probing.
The directive comes a day after a male teacher from the school was directed to give DNA samples over the alleged heinous act in the institution that has since been closed down pending investigations.
The man, whose identity has not been revealed, allegedly colluded with others to rape a girl inside one of the school dormitories. The DNA tests will be used to identify the potential criminals before further investigations are conducted.
It has also emerged that the principal of the school and matrons of the school did not respond promptly after the students raised an alarm. According to students, their colleague, a former two, was raped in their Elgon Hostel while two of her mates were assaulted.
The students claimed that the incident occurred at around 2 am. It is reported that two men made their way into a cubicle shared by four girls and attempted to rape them. One of the girls escaped unhurt, two others escaped with injuries and another one was raped by the men. The girls then woke up other girls from other cubicles after the rapists had escaped from the dormitory. The matrons did not act until the next morning.
“Three men entered the cubicle shared by four girls. One girl managed to escape unhurt. The men then attempted to rape two other girls but they escaped, although they were beaten. One attacker managed to rape one of the girls,” the students recounted.
