Former President Daniel arap Moi has spoken on the upcoming August 8 general election.
Moi’s message was read by his son, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, during the ground-breaking ceremony of the Kabarak Teaching Research and Referral Mission Hospital on Wednesday.
The former president, who ruled for 24 years, called on President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee and his National Super Alliance (Nasa) rival Raila Odinga to conduct peaceful campaigns.
Moi also warned politicians from dividing the country with tribal or ethnic rhetoric during the campaigns.
He said every Kenyan has the right to vote for the leader of his choice and thus no one should force people to vote on ethnic grounds.
"Politics should not be done on ethnic grounds. Every person has the right to vote for their chosen candidate despite their tribe," Moi said, as reported by The Standard.
The former president also urged the youth not to be used by politicians to settle their personal agenda.
"Politics should not be done on ethnic grounds. Every person has the right to vote for their chosen candidate despite their tribe," he said.
Moi’s son, Gideon, is supporting the re-election bid of Uhuru.
