Rongai Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Raymond Moi has stepped in to resolve a dispute between Bodaboda operators and the NALOKI Matatu Sacco in Rongai town over their operating territories.
Addressing a joint meeting between representatives of the two sides on Sunday morning at Rongai town, Moi said that he was forced to intervene after the two sides failed to find an agreeable solution to the dispute.
He said that both sides had a right to do their business in the area, but insisted that the two sides must respect each other.
In the meeting the two sides agreed to stick to an earlier memorandum they had signed in January, last year, which defined where each side would operate from.
In the memorandum Matatu operators were to pick passengers from the stage and drop them at the same point whereas Bodabodas were to pick and drop passengers from the estates.
Moi said that both sides had agreed that any violation of the agreement will attract sever consequences.
“Last week there was a conflict between Matatus and Bodaboda riders about territories and that is why I came here to listen to both sides and find a solution after both sides asked me to and we have agreed that they will both stick to an agreement they signed in January last year and no one will step into the other group’s territory,” said Moi.
Chairperson of the Rongai Bodaboda riders David Kiharo said that they will go back to work after the meeting and said that they were happy a solution had been found.
“We are happy because for the past few days some of us have not been able to work but since we have agreed our youths can go and work without any fear,” said Kiharo.
