Retired President Daniel Moi has decided to back the United States International University (USIU) in seeking compensation over the controversial land dispute between him and the institution.
Moi said he supported plans to compensate the university for the controversial prime land since they (USIU) had a right cause.
He described the talks between Ndungu Njoroge & Kwach Advocates and Paul Ndiritu Ndungu as necessary to facilitate the court sort the issues in the suit.
The lawyers have however opposed it.
“They are necessary parties to the suit due to the various acts taken by each party at various times regarding the illegal sale of my two parcels of land,” Moi said in court papers.
USIU appears to have ceased its claim over the land although in amended court papers, it said it will seek full compensation at the current market value from its lawyers who allegedly bought the land on its behalf.
The university also seeks compensation from ICEA Lion Life Assurance Company Ltd (seller of the land) and the Chief Registrar of Lands for not keeping proper land records and therefore exposing the land to fraudulent activities.
