Independence party KANU will after all support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election and is set to craft a workable deal that before August elections, reports the Standard.
This is after Kenyatta met retired president Daniel Moi, father to Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, who has been giving Jubilee administration sleepless nights.
And West Pokot senator John Longanyapuo says that the meeting at Kabarnet gardens that brought together the two sides, resolved that they work together.
“We met at Kabarnet Gardens and we decided to work together. A team from KANU and that from Jubilee will meet and craft the best way we can work as a team ahead of elections,” he said.
Longanyapuo added: “We have been having issues but I think the president promised to handle them. Our team raised a host of concerns which will anyway decide the future of the two parties.”
KANU has been courting opposition NASA and its Secretary General, Nick Salat, has in many occasions attended opposition functions, a reason perhaps President Kenyatta was keen to have the party support to consolidate Rift Valley votes.
Nevertheless, Longanyapuo confirmed that the party will fill candidates in all elective positions apart from the presidential seat.
