Former President Daniel Arap Moi underwent a knee surgery at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi on Friday.

According to Moi’s press secretary Lee Njiru, the minor surgery was conducted to ease pain on his knee.

"After the procedure, performed under local anesthesia, a hail and hearty Mzee Moi was discharged and is recuperating at his residence," Njiru said.

There was tight security at the Aga Khan Hospital as Moi underwent the procedure.

"He was brought in at around 4pm. There was security all over the place," said a source.
