Moi University has donated computers to Kenya Society for the Blind and the Eldoret School for the Hearing Impaired.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics, Research and Extension, Prof. Isaac Kimengi said this will promote the use of technology in the institutions offering special needs education.
“You are telling the world that there is hope for the handicapped and that makes them useful again to society. That is why we decided to do this noble course," he said at the University premises, Wednesday.
"Learning acquires more meaning through the use of special equipment and computers are part of the much sought after modern technology learning devices," he added.
Mr. Johnson Kitetu from the Kenya Society for the Blind said the computers will enable the institution train more people who are visually impaired to be able to undertake various career.
"In Kenya, over 45,000 people of school going are visually impaired but only 7, 000 are in school, calling for more support from Government and well-wishers to support the less fortunate group in society," he said.
“We are so grateful. We don’t have enough teaching and learning equipment and I promise that the donation will improve the performance of our pupils,” noted the chairman of the Board of Governors of Eldoret School for the Hearing Impaired Mark Kibor.
