Moi University students conducted their elections on Friday to have their 30th student governing council (SGC).
This time round was different from the previous ones where contestants had a 'crossfire' conducted by student electoral commission.
This is where the candidates are given opportunity to sell themselves and answer questions directly from the electorates.
This time round, the debate was done by the varsity television channel Kenya television service (KTS).
Those who wanted to hear the debate had to watch it at the student centre where it was being streamed live.
Students never had a chance to engage their candidates. Another change was alliances.
From 2013, the elections have been taking a national political outlook; Jubilee and CORD alliances.
This time, it was different. Students from Western Kenya formed a coalition with those from Rift Valley, while Luo Nyanza, Kisii region and the Coast region formed another coalition, with the latter winning.
The hotly contested post was the chair docket. The KaleLuhya side had Mr. Towett Kipyegon Ng'etich while the other side produced Mr. Henry Ouma Rathore.
From the results which were released on Saturday morning, Mr. Towett emerged victorious by garnering 2260 votes.
He becomes the 30th Moi University Student Organisation's president.
