Prof Kosgey emerged top of the last year’s conducted interview for the position by the ministry of education.

He will now replace Prof Laban Ayiro who has been serving in an acting capacity for one year. The extended term of Prof Ayiro end on Monday business day.

The interview conducted last year on March was alleged to be marred with tribalism in awarding the candidates marks. For instance, Prof Ayiro was given very low marks by some council members contrary to what he scored from other panellists.

This caused the former education CS Dr Fred Matiang’i to cancel the recruitment exercise and appointed a new council that would do a fair conducting.

The results of the interview were, however, leaked to politicians and the candidates before being released publicly.

As politics played in this vacant position, CS Mohammed inherited a tough work when she joined the ministry early this year.

She then picked Prof Kosgey after a month of considering the legal and administrative implications of picking him or his counterpart, Prof Ayiro.

Eight more public universities in January received newly appointed vice-chancellors.
