[Photo: hivisasa.com]A Moi University student has been sentenced to 8 years in prison after he was found guilty of killing his colleague.Dickson Syengo Mutemi, 20, had been charged with manslaughter.According to court documents, Mutemi, a first year student, murdered Stephen Mututho, a fourth year student, on  May 21, 2016 at Pioneer estate, in the outskirts of Eldoret town.While making the ruling, Monday, Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Omblutsa said the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence linking the suspect with the murder. The prosecution used 9 witnesses in the case among them Faith Bwire, the girlfriend to the suspect.

During the hearing of the case, the court was told that the suspect stabbed Mututho eight times with a kitchen knife after he found the deceased having a conversation with his girlfriend Faith Bwire while seated on the bed in her hostel room.

"It was noted that you stabbed the deceased 8 times and therefore you will serve one year for each of the stab," ruled Ombulutsa.The suspect has 14 days to appeal the court ruling.
