Moi University students have urged the national government to intervene and help bring to an end the ongoing lecturer’s strike.
Led by the student’s union secretary general Moses Tisa, they said the strike has led to many of them overstaying in school.
“We want to call upon the national government to intervene and save us from this stalemate. We are being tormented academically. How can a course that is supposed to take four years take seven years?” lamented Tisa in Eldoret town on Saturday.
“When a student is idle, he/she can resolve to theft and all manner of criminal activities. We have 4th-year students who have overstayed, did they come to the university to stay permanently or get degrees and go home?” he added.
The students further called for the implementation of the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) as the lecturers are demanding.
"If the national government will not address the lecturers’ issues, we will join them in fighting for their rights by not only causing economic sabotage but we will ensure all services in our universities are paralyzed completely," warned the Moi University student's union secretary-general.
