Moi University's School of Agriculture and Natural Resources signed an MoU with Japanese conglomerate Toyota Tsusho Corporation, that will see the institution reap big from the partnership.
This follows a pledge by the Japanese government to donate laboratory equipment worth Shh31 million to the School, February 2017.
"The equipment, to be donated through Toyota Tsusho, will boost research and teaching in the School,'' said the school's Communication Department.
In January 2016, Toyota Tsusho and Moi University signed an MoU to conduct research on soil, to establish the suitability of different types of fertilisers for specific locations.
The research on soil helps the the Company to produce fertiliser types that match soil deficiencies at its new plant in Ngeria, Eldoret.
On January 5, 2017, students from the School that were on an internship at the fertiliser plant were awarded certificates of one year service by Toyota Tsusho Chief Executive, Wada Akira.
The students include Amon Kemboi, Lilian Siele, Florence Chebet, Antony Oketch and Diana Kenana.
The School Dean Prof Timothy Sulo, who represented Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics, Research and Extension, Prof Isaac Kimengi, hailed the MoU, noting that Moi University would greatly benefit from it.
