Anti-riot police officers were immediately deployed to the campus after the Moi University Vice Chancellor Richard Mibei went ahead and ordered for the school's immediate closure.

Speaking to the press after its closure, Prof Mibei said that after long consultations with the management and the senate, they all decided to suspend the academic programmes for a short while until the issue with the lecturers is totally resolved.

"The management of the school has already put up enough mechanisms to ensure that the learning is not disrupted for a long time. Once the issues with the lecturers are resolved, we will call the students so as they can go on with their learning,” said Mibei.

Eddy Waswa, a student leader of Moi University, urged the management to quickly resolve the ongoing wrangles with the lecturers.

"The students have already paid the school fees and they expect to be taught. We have been patient for quite a while hoping that the lecturer's issue will be solved but it seems that we are very wrong since nothing is being done,” said Eddy waswa.

Waswa, however, stated that the lecturers need to be fully paid so that they can go on with their work.

Musalia Mudebe, is the campus' organising secretary, urged the management of the school to honour the lecturers’ demands.
