Bedbugs at Moi University, Main Campus, continue to be a thorn in the flesh for many students who have complained of being denied peaceful sleep.
According to majority of students residing at the school hostels, the bedbugs have become a menace.
In an interview with Hivisasa.com, Juliet Awuor, a student who has suffered the bedbug menace said she has been a victim of these bites ever since the semester started.
“The bites were too much and I was forced to buy my own bedbug spray from a nearby shop after my relentless complains to the housekeeper went futile,” said Awuor.
This has prompted some of them to reside at their friend’s houses in the rentals outside the campus.
Purity Cherop, a student who suffered a similar fate told Hivisasa.com that she has vacated the hostels due to the bedbugs.
The school administration has rolled out a bedbug spraying timetable throughout the entire campus in an effort to fight the insects, following the students’ outcry.
Hostels and accommodation director, Joyce Tanui, said the university public health office in conjunction with the hostels department and the Moi University Students Organisation (Muso) health office will be conducting a comprehensive door to door bedbug spray exercise.
“The exercise will take place daily in all hostels, between 9am and 1pm,” said Tanui.
She assured the students the bedbugs will soon be eradicated from the hostels.
