Former President Daniel Arap Moi has urged the government to deploy more security officers in Garissa and other areas experiencing terror threats, cattle rustling and border conflicts.
Speaking at Eldoret town on Saturday, Moi said that deploying more officers to fight the terror elements will be the first step towards securing the areas.
He observed that insecurity in Garissa and other North Eastern parts of the country is threatening the peace of the country, and urged the government must remain alert and avert such terror threats and insecurity.
The former President said that the enemy should never be allowed to disrupt the peace and lives of Kenyans.
“We are all concerned by the terror threats from Al Shabaab and other militants, the government should step up its efforts to secure Garissa and other areas exposed to threats,” he said.
Moi said that the war against terrorism will be won if the government devises more measures.
He lauded the Nyumba Kumi initiative that the government introduced, but said there is need for more such measures.
Moi also called for the support of other countries in the region against Al Shabaab, saying that the militants threaten the stability of the region.
On cattle rustling in some parts of the Rift Valley, the former chief in commander said that the problem will end if leaders in the region speak to their people.
He said that cattle rustling are a cultural issue that has been criminalized and that it can be weeded if leaders speak to their respective communities.
On the same note, he urged politicians to be responsible in what they say and do, noting that some of their actions lead to political violence and unnecessary tensions.
