Speaking at Kabarak Community Chapel in Nakuru on Sunday, Moi said that there is need for the government to recruit more teachers to improve the teacher-student ratio.

He noted that the current ratio is worrying, saying something needs to be done urgently to contain the deteriorating education standards.

“I want to ask the government to consider recruiting more teachers to address the challenges facing schools across the country,” he said.

The retired president, who ruled Kenya for 24 years, added that education quality will improve only if more resources are channelled to schools.

He indicated that most schools are having one teacher attending to 60 students which he observed is against the set standards.

Moi encouraged candidates sitting for national examinations this year to maintain discipline and put their trust in God.

He said nothing is difficult to achieve so long us one is disciplined, hardworking and values God’s teachings.
