Even before officially having his preferred names nominated to cabinet, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi's family allies were among the lucky people to be named in Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet.
Prior to elections, KANU had brokered a Memorandum of Understanding with Uhuru, in which it is expected that a few of its followers will get government appointments.
But background study on Ex-Marisabit Governor Ukur Yatani and former Turkana Senator John Munyes shows their close ties with the Moi family.
In 1990s, retired President Daniel Moi appointed Yatani as a District Officer and rose ranks within a short span to District Commissioner.
Upon Moi's retirement in 2002, Yatani, who went to school at Kabarnet in Moi's home turf, was one of dependable provincial administrator in KANU government.
Elected first to parliament in 1997 on a KANU ticket, Munyes is also said to have been a point-man for the senior Moi in Turkana region during his infantry stages in politics.
Uhuru is expected to name 13 other ministers to fill slots to a maximum provision of 22 as provided by the constitution.
The young Moi is said to be at loggerheads with DP William Ruto, who conspicuously snubbed cabinet nominations, as succession politics ahead of 2022 kicks off.
