Moiben Constituency Member of Parliament Silas Tiren has said that the transport sector should not be devolved.
Speaking at Moiben on Tuesday, Tiren said that the county government might not be able to handle the transport sector if devolved.
“There will be a mix-up in road construction if transport sector will be devolved, it will be hard to manage the sector,” said Tiren.
He further said that there are those roads that cut across two or three counties, which will pose a problem in handling construction, noting that there will be a big gap between finished and unfinished roads in the country.
The MP noted that there are different departments that have been given authority to handle the transport sector.
“Roads have been classified into different categories, there are those roads that are under KeNHA, KURA, KRRA and unclassified roads that are handled by the county government, so devolving will mean burden to the county,” said Tiren.
He also challenged the government to get more involved in road construction across the country, saying it will improve economic development.
