Youths in Moiben Constituency have been urged to apply for the Uwezo fund whose interest is zero-rated to improve their livelihoods.

Speaking in Eldoret town on Friday, Moiben Uwezo Chairperson Mr Godfrey Kiptanui said that the national government had released Sh18 million to benefit the youth, women and people with disability in the constituency and the disbursement process was ongoing.

“I have already disbersed Sh14 Million. In the first phase Sh9 million was given to 98 groups while during the the second phase Sh5 million to 60 groups. A group directly qualifies if it has a table banking,” he said.

He added that before any amount is allocated to a group, it must undergo thorough mentor-ship and capacity building on how to use the fund wisely since they are supposed to pay it back..

“We have been carrying out awareness programmes on the funds but so far youths are not turning up in large numbers as would have been expected. Some are claiming that the process is tiresome rather than try and see the benefits and yet they are the ones in  need,” he stressed.

He challenged the national and county governments to reserve 30% of all contracts for youths, women and people with disabilities for them to improve their livelihoods
