President Uhuru Kenyatta’s swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday at the Moi Kasarani Stadium was a spectacle to behold, as Uhuru took the reins of power for the next five years.

However, amidst all the joy and celebration, one man’s role in the ceremony could not be taken lightly by many.

Gideon Moi was seen welcoming dignitaries attending the inauguration, raising eyebrows on whether the fight to replace Kenyatta had already begun.

Moi’s rivalry with Deputy President William Ruto is an open secret, with the two not seeing eye to eye.

Keen Kenyans on social media raised a storm on whether Moi, who enjoys a close relationship with the Kenyatta family, had already ‘been picked’ by Kenyatta.

In photos seen on Tuesday, the Baringo Senator was seen welcoming Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and Salva Kiir of South Sudan and Paul Kagame of Rwanda.

Only last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta was seen paying a visit to Mzee Daniel Moi, father to Gideon at his home, underlining their close relationship.

There are fears from the DP’s camp that Uhuru might settle for Moi as his successor, but the pair has worked harmoniously for the past five years and look set to complete the second term together.

Ruto and Moi have in the past engaged in a public spat, laying bare their differences.
