Molo Member of Parliament Jacob Macharia has called on dairy farmers in his constituency to form cooperatives so as to benefit from milk.
Speaking on Thursday when he commissioned the construction of a milk processing plant in Molo, Macharia challenged the dairy farmers to form cooperatives in order to end brokers of Milk.
“Despite high production of milk, our farmers make less money. Cooperative societies are the solution to the problem. Cooperatives will enable you to sell milk directly to the market without the involvement of middle men,” he said.
The legislator added that cooperative societies will enable farmers to empower one another through formation of Sacco’s.
“It will also be easy for the government to tackle the challenges faced by dairy farmers when you are in cooperatives as opposed to the individuals,” he added noting that veterinary officers will serve farmers who are in cooperatives efficiently and easily.
