Nakuru County health executive, Jonah Mwangi has refuted claims that there is an acute shortage of drugs at the Molo sub-county hospital.
This is after the matter was raised in a section of the media, but the CEC after making a visit to the facility observed that the doctors are prescribing brand names instead of the chemical names yet the drug store is fully stocked.
“The doctors are prescribing brand names instead of the chemical names yet the drug store is fully stocked. So let me state here that the facility has drugs and there is nothing like shortage,” he said.
Mwangi added that he had held a meeting with the involved health officials and directed them to give the patients the right prescription that is available in the pharmacy.
Molo MP Kuria Kimani called for thorough investigations into the matter alleging that there might be a section of doctors prescribing to patients the specific brand names not available in the hospital chemist but in their private chemists.
He further advised patients instructed to buy medication from private chemist to report the matter to the relevant authorities for appropriate action to be taken and end this cat and mouse game once and for all.
