Muigai said the poor disposal of the diapers had often lead to environmental degradation.

He also challenged the county government to come up with a new law seeking to control and regulate the dumping of diapers in the town, calling for a special fine to women caught dumping them aimlessly.

Speaking at the county assembly on Wednesday, Miugai pointed out that the diapers were clogging the drainage system in the town while at the same time were an eyesore.

“It is unfortunate that they are littered everywhere and no one seems to care. In fact, cases of people sliding on their murk and injuring themselves have been on the increase,” he added.

His views were supported by Emily Mwangi, a Nakuru environmentalist and public health specialist who challenged the county to create renewable energy from diapers.

“It has been proven that one can get biogas from used diapers. They take at least 200 years to decompose and if not taken care of, we soon will not have a place to dump them anymore as we would be clogged with dirt, “she added.
