Speaking to journalists when he toured and inspected development projects in the constituency on Sunday, Macharia said poor roads continue to hamper economic development in the area.

He observed most residents are dairy farmers and that their products take long to reach the market as a result of poor road networks.

“The Nakuru county government should quickly come to our aid and have our roads repaired in order to rescue our economy,” he said.

Macharia noted that most roads have been rendered impassable mostly as a result of heavy rains in the area.

“Transport in and out of Molo is an issue right now. The roads are muddy and filled with water and the situation is getting worse due to the ongoing heavy rains,” said Macharia.

The MP noted that he had communicated the problem to the Nakuru government roads executive who promised to intervene immediately.

Macharia said that nothing has been forthcoming and urged the county government to step in quickly before the situation gets worse.

The lawmaker also complained over poor drainage systems and asked the government to also address the issue. He observed that most drainage trenches have been washed away by rain water which also flood into business premises and homes.

Macharia said it is the work of the county government to fast-track repairs and renovation of all infrastructures.

Nakuru Roads executive Joel Maina on Friday said that the county was finalising on key road infrastructures.

Maina said that most roads across Nakuru have been renovated and repaired, adding that those which have not been repaired will be catered for in the new financial year.

“The county government has earmarked several roads for repair in the new financial year. The county intends to have all roads repaired and renovated in the next one year,” he said.
