Local leadership in Baringo County has been condemned following revelations that pupils of Nachurur Primary School in Marigat still study under trees.
Residents of Molo constituency said Monday they were disappointed as they watched news that pupils were studying under trees as they stared at a herd of cows that was passing by.
"It's shameful that half a century after independence, we still have such conditions in our country. Elected leaders should be held responsible for what is in Baringo," said Joseph Karimi.
Salome Wanjiku supported Karimi's thoughts, adding that the failure to build the school is intolerable.
"We should not be having such conditions in this age and time. It is unacceptable to have our children lacking basic facilities. Leaders ought to serve the same people who voted them into leadership positions."
Jeniffer Moraa blamed the leadership and called on voters to demand their rights.
She wondered how a school could run with only two teachers and no basic facilities.
"The leaders should act and account for the Constituency Development Fund monies. I wonder how it feels to be a pupil in a school with no basic facilities and only two teachers. The residents have a right to be served. In fact education is a basic right."
