The ongoing dry spell has forced residents in Molo sub-county to venture into other means of acquiring clean water for domestic use.
A spot checked by this writer revealed that water vendors are having a booming business in Molo town with bodaboda riders among individuals who have ventured into the business.
James Maina said his construction stalled due to the high cost of the water.
He said he used to spend more than 6,000 on water before deciding to wait for the rains.
"It is very expensive to construct a three room house without adequate supply of water. It is so expensive to depend on water vendors," he said.
Peter Mburu of Munju area said several rivers have dried up.
Mburu blames the situation on environment degradation.
He said if the dry spells continues food prices will automatically go up affecting low income earners especially those living in urban centres.
A twenty litre jerrycan of water is selling at Sh30.
Resident also fear that lack of clean water might lead to outbreak of diseases.
