Molo residents have threatened to go to court over failure by the county government of Nakuru to provide the two fire brigades it promised to give them following the frequent fire incidents in the area.
This follows the destruction of 40 homes in Muchatha area from a fire whose cause is yet to be established.
Speaking to the press in Molo on Wednesday, the residents claimed they experience fire outbreaks at least once a week, and the response has always been slow.
“The government, through Governor Kinuthia Mbugua had promised us a fire engine and yet we continue to suffer any time there is a fire. We are forced to put out the razing fires with our own water and in most cases leaves and sand,” said Simon Maina.
He said in many cases, the fire would have been easily contained had there been a working fire engine.
Joseph Mureithi said the only way to compel the government to release the engines was by going to court.
“This is the only language that the county government understands,” he added.
Kevin Muchemi said the fire engines in the area often come late and need water from residents to put out the fires.
“What is the use of coming if they cannot be able to help in curbing the fire?” he quipped
