The spacious shuttles come with features such as air conditioners, flat screens, expanded speakers and free Wi-Fi.
Addressing media at the Mololine stand at the Nakuru A.S.K show, Mololine services vice chairman Kibera Muchai said that the new look public service vehicles were introduced in line with the government’s endeavor to bring reforms and sanity in the public service vehicles sector.
“We have two categories of matatus- one which is supposed to carry 16 or 18 passengers but has been designed to carry 12 passengers while the second category which is supposed to carry 14 passengers been designed to carry 10 passengers,” he said.
He added that the luxury shuttle vehicles have spacious comfortable seats because the number of seats has been reduced compared to the normal matatus.
Furthermore, as a way of ensuring that every passenger is comfortable, a socket from which one can charge a mobile phone or laptop has been provided per seat as well as a switch which a passenger can press to alert the driver after reaching the desired destination.
While observing the growth in technological innovation, the Vice-chair said there was a need to ensure that digitalization is also achieved in the public service vehicle sector.
A passenger on board the luxurious shuttles whose fare is Sh100 above that of normal 14 seater matatus is only supposed to key in the password displayed at the back of the driver’s seat and then enjoy free browsing up to the destination of choice.
The new innovation has attracted many customers making the company introduce direct fleets to the Syokimau Standard Gauge Railway-SGR terminus from Nakuru town.
Kibera says existing security threats across the country and the need to embrace modernization has made the company to introduce e-ticketing and digitalized fleet management system that is interlinked to its most of its offices like Naivasha, Eldoret, Kericho, Nakuru, Eldama ravine, Kabarnet, Kisumu, Kitale and Nairobi.
Through the system, He noted that it is possible to monitor all vehicles thus guaranteeing passengers of their safety as well as respond to emergencies in case of breakdown.
“This world is all about innovation and its possible to see our other range of vehicles fitted with CCTV cameras,” he said.
It should be noted that the company is participating in the show for the fifth time and has won the first prize in the category of the best stand that displays initiatives in provision of viable transport services.
