A member of Parliament from Nyamira has distanced himself from rumours doing rounds that he was preparing to deputise the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation chairman Walter Nyambati in county's gubernatorial seat in the 2017 elections.
A number of social media users have been linking the MP with Mr Nyambati who declared his gubernatorial bid recently saying the JKF chairman was banking on the legislator’s populism.
But Mr Ben Momanyi of Borabu on Tuesday during a phone interview denied interest in the county job insisting that he is keen to defend his seat.
“I have been linked to gubernatorial elections for a longtime and I want to say that I will not deputise anyone because Borabu people still need me to complete my second term in 2017,” Momanyi said.
“I am not interested in being someone’s running mate and if such rumours exist, then it must be a creation of someone who fears competing in an election. I am keen on defending my seat because I am happy,” he said.
Momanyi contended that should he opt to run for the county seats, he was not ready to play a second fiddle to any aspirant.
“Even if I was to run for any county job, I will go for governorship and not playing a second fiddle to someone else. What’s important for me presently is to do my best as MP and perhaps in future I will consider working with Nyamira County people,” the Wiper MP added.
Mr Momanyi is also reportedly being hunted by Jubilee given his close touch with the people and DP William Ruto hinted on the plan during last week’s visit to Kebirigo.
