A Member of Parliament from Nyamira County now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to apologise to Kenyans following a statement he made regarding International Criminal Court.
President Kenyatta, who led a prayer rally at Afraha stadium in Nakuru to celebrate the termination of ICC cases that had involved six Kenyans among them him and the Deputy insisted that the country will never allow its citizens to be tried in a foreign court.
But an angry Borabu MP Ben Momanyi on Sunday faulted the president terming the statement ‘reckless’ and ‘uncalled’ for saying it would harbor impunity.
“I didn’t oppose the prayer rally but I am really disappointed by reckless remarks by the head of state about ICC. The statement was uncalled for and he should give a public apology,” he said during fundraiser at Mokomoni.
“It’s a total disrespect of the international relations and peaceful coexistence which is likely to harbor impunity within the country. The President got it wrong and I just want him to do us a favour by withdrawing the remarks,” he added.
Momanyi also wondered why the President and his team didn’t trust the court yet it had favored them in the landmark ruling that also saw Deputy President and Radio Journalist Joshua Sang exonerated.
“It also beats logic that they were celebrating a decision by a court which he is apparently inciting Kenyans against. Time has come for us to respect international collaborations and systems of justice for peaceful coexistence. ICC should never be questioned at all because it fights impunity justly,” he added.
