A group of entertainers from Mombasa have came together to form an association of tribes living in the Coastal city.
Mombasa Cultural Dancers Association, is made up of different entertainment groups, mainly traditional dancers, acrobats and actors.
Every tribe living in Mombasa is represented in the association, which uses songs and performances to promote peace and preach a message of unity.
Joyce Ndung’u, the association chair, said the association is made up of over 20 different entertainment groups which hail from different communities.
“I am the association chair but I also lead a Kikuyu dance group known as Kimuri Women dance. Mombasa is a cosmopolitan city with different tribes and that’s why we decided to come together and preach against tribalism,” she said.
Margaret Nyangasi, a traditional dancer, said the association also seeks to promote cultural awareness among the youth.
