Environmental activists have given incoming Mombasa Environment CeC Godfrey Nyongesa a 30-day ultimatum to clear the heaps of garbage in the county, failure to which they will take unspecified action against him.Residents have raised concerns over the possible outbreak of diseases after heavy rains swept garbage to estates.The environmentalists have asked the county government to deal with the matter with immediate effect in a bid to stop the impending danger.In an interview with The Star, Active Environmental Team coordinator Benson Wemali said the waste management team has not done enough to deal with the disaster.“We are giving Nyongesa 30 days to deal with the garbage problem, failure to which we shall take action against him,” he said.Food vendors have been lamenting the decline in profits because of the garbage heap near the women rep’s office.Hotelier and political activist Mama Jawambe said that clients are now looking for alternative places where they can eat because of the pathetic state of affairs.“We are losing out because clients are already looking for alternative eateries,” said Jawambe.
