A section of Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) priests has moved to court seeking to block the consecration of the newly-elected Bishop of the Mombasa Diocese Alphonse Mwaro Baya.Tom Dawa, George Kuza, and Emmanuel Nzaka want ACK Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit directed to postpone the ceremony scheduled for January 7, 2018, until the case is determined. The clerics told the court that Baya allegedly colluded with some members of the church to rig the election, the Standard has reported.“He wrongfully contacted some members of the search committee who in return gave him higher marks than he deserves,” read part of their suit. The newly elected Bishop is expected to take over from Mombasa Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Julius Kalu, who is set to retire this month after serving for 24 years. The clerics claimed that Kalu was behind the rigging plot.Baya was declared the winner of the election after the clerics voted three times. He was contesting against Mombasa Memorial Cathedral provost, Rev Festus Kiseu and the vicar of ACK St John Church, Rev Richard Otieno.Kalu, has, however, distanced himself from the claims that he influenced the outcome of the election process in favor of Baya. He maintained that the election was conducted in a free and fair manner, adding that the losers must accept to work with newly elected Bishop. The case will be heard on December 29, 2017.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
