The county government of Mombasa has dismissed CS health Dr. Cleopha Mailu’s remarks that Governor Ali Hassan Joho is to blame for the outbreak of region.

Through Health CeC Hazel Koitaba, the governor termed the sentiments as baseless and unfortunate. She said that the county government has collaborated with different groups including KEMRI and World Health Organization (WHO) to fight the diseases in the area following its outbreak.

“The remarks made by CS health Dr. Cleopha Mailu in regard to the outbreak in Mombasa County are unfortunate as the County is doing all that it can to counter the spread of Chikungunya contrary to claims made by him,” said Koitaba.

Speaking at Pride Inn Paradise Beach Resort after the official opening the parliamentary committee on Health retreat in Shanzu, The CS has said that the county government has not been reporting incidences of the disease.  She also said that there are no reported cases of cholera in the county as alleged by media reports.

She, however, did not provide details of the number of persons affected by the disease since its outbreak was announced. The county government had indicated that Mvita, Changamwe, Likoni, Jomvu, Kisauni, and Nyali were among the most affected areas.
