Officers from Mombasa County Government Department of Water Sanitation and Natural Resources met for a consultative meeting at the Tudor Social Hall to forge new plans of how they can collaborate to ensure Mombasa residents get adequate and regular supply of fresh water.
The team was led by Chief Officer Francis Kombe, Mombasa Water Supply and Sanitation Company Ltd (MOWASCO), Private Water Tanker operators, Sewage Exhauster operators, Commercial Borehole operators, Sub County Administration and other stakeholders.
With the help of the Sub County Administration, the Department of Water together with MOWASCO are planning for a vigorous exercise to identify, register and regularize all privately owned water tanker (bowser) services, both for fresh and borehole water, sewage exhauster tanker services and other operators within the County to ensure adherence to quality of service on all operations.
Participants were taken through an overview of water supply situation, sewerage services, commercial borehole activities as well as the legal status of water and sewerage services in Mombasa County.
The attendees also applauded the engagement and termed it necessary for a greater good in delivering better services to residents.
Some of the way forward entailed enforcing standards, regulations and laws on disposal unit management as well as educating the community on the dangers of polluting water areas.
