The Mombasa head of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said that election preparations will go on as planned despite the rising political tension in the country.
Speaking during an interview with The Star, election manager Nancy Kariuki said the trainings are ongoing and there is no need to raise alarm because there is peace in the region.
She said she has collected the other election materials and she is just waiting for the ballot papers.
The election boss denied of there being cases of resignation of presiding officers for the fear of their lives
“I don’t deal with ‘what ifs’. I deal with actual situations. We’ll cross the bridge when we get there. There has not been any no-show for POs so I don’t expect anything from clerks. There are no threats.” She said as quoted by the local daily.
Her sentiments comes after the National Super Alliance flag bearer, Raila Odinga, said there will be no election on the October 26 due to a raft of concerns which the commission has not addressed.
This was reiterated by airport ward MCA Ibrahim Omondi who termed the coming rerun as a Jubilee rerun but not a presidential election.
