A family in Mombasa is appealing for help after their kin was allegedly arrested by unknown armed men on Friday.The family has urged security agencies in the county to assist them in tracing the whereabouts of their relative, Mohammed Ali Zingizi, who was is reported to have been arrested by armed men suspected to belong to the anti-terror police unit at his business premises in Ujamaa, Likoni area.The family claimed that Ali was arrested and bundled into a Probox.Addressing journalists at Haki Africa’s offices on Sunday, Ali’s sister, Munira Zingizi, said her brother’s whereabouts have remained unknown since his arrest.“We have visited all police stations in an attempt to trace him. Ali has no criminal record and has been carrying out his business of selling fish,” said Zingizi, as quoted by the local daily.Zingizi also said efforts to reach Ali through his cell phone proved fruitless as their calls kept on disconnecting before the device was switched off. “At 2 am on Saturday we tried to call him and the phone was on, it rang shortly before it was disconnected and later switched off. After a while, it was switched on and when we tried again it was switched off,” said Munira.She further said that the men who arrested him did not identify themselves.Likoni MP Mishi Mboko and Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff have condemned the disappearance of Ali, adding that police need to speed up investigations into the matter.
