Mombasa County recorded low turnout of persons seeking to be listed as voters, on the first day of the second phase of Mass Voter Registration (MVR) exercise.
At Kiembeni Baptist registration centre, only one person had arrived for registration within an hour. However, about 20 people availed themselves at the Kongowea DO's office for registration by Monday midday, giving hopes that more would come.
IEBC South Coast coordinator Albert Gogo however expressed optimism that the exercise had just started and that there was still more time for eligible persons to register.
In Kisauni, area IEBC coordinator Aisha Abubakar noted the numbers of people who arrived at Manyani grounds, Junda AIC church and St James Haman centres were overwhelming.
At Mtopanga Primary, the number of persons was increasing by hour.
IEBC targets to register four to six million voters by February 14, 2017.
