The budget for the Sh84.4 million house has already been approved and construction works are expected to kick off at anytime.

The house, however, will not belong to the county chief as he will be expected to vacate when he leaves office in 2022 to pave way for Mombasa's second county chief to occupy it.

A dispatch from the governor's office about the project indicates that the money that will be spent in putting up the investment will be sources from Mombasa county's allocation from the National Treasury for the 2018/2019 Financial Year.

The county, however, has not made public where the house will be constructed.

Mombasa residents on Friday expressed mixed reactions over the investment which they said was being put up at the expense of development in the Coastal county.

Rashid Hatami said: "Mombasa has so many problem to solve. There is no point of constructing such a house when we do not have clean water to drink."

Another resident William Mwakamba said the county government needed to get its priorities right.

"Sh84.4 million when majority of the youth are unemployed? Why can't we be given that money so that we start business?"

But a one Amir Said supported the investment saying Joho is a leader who has sacrificed so much for residents of Mombasa and deserves to be rewarded with the house.
