Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Thadius Rajwayi has said the county's gubernatorial race will be a battle between three politicians.
He said the three who are likely to clinch the seat are Governor Hassan Joho, Senator Hassan Omar and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti.
In an interview with The Star, Rajwayi said the other aspirants who have declared interest in the seat stand minimal chances of unseating Joho in 2017.
Rajwayi, who was suspended by MCAs after he fell out with Joho, also said the six-piece voting system is among the reasons why the region has lagged behind in terms of development.
He said the county assembly has been characterized by inefficiency because it is a one party (ODM) house.
“The six-piece voting resulted in Mombasa being an ODM assembly, which made it inefficient,” he said.
The speaker further said that he will not be leaving ODM and he will support any politician with the right ideologies to transform Mombasa.
“First, I am in ODM to stay. I have not moved to Wiper. Nothing will stop us from strengthening ODM, which is our primary role,” said Rajwayi.
“I will support a candidate who will help and represent the interests of the people of Mombasa,” he added.
