Two security guards were on Thursday arraigned in court over the death of a Mombasa-based banker. The two, Hamisi Karisa and Saidi Mwalugo, however, denied causing the death of the banker, David Wokabi. The duo, alongside others who were not present in court, are accused of committed the offense on January 7, 2018, in Kisauni Sub-County. In a sworn affidavit, the two denied the accusations leveled against them before High Court Judge Dorah Chepkwony. The suspects reportedly assaulted the deceased before he met his untimely death for urinating at an undesignated area at Nyali Centre. The court directed the suspects to be remanded at Shimo La Tewa Prison pending a determination on whether they will be granted bail or not.The suspects, who are employees of Solvit Security, attacked the deceased before he was taken to the Aga Khan Hospital where he died while receiving treatment."I have received instructions from (the) investigating officer through Kisauni DCIO to wait for a report. We will be in a position to respond to the bond application in a week’s time," prosecution counsel Erick Masila said. Through lawyer Cherie Oyier, the suspects asked the court to release them on bond.  The lawyer also requested the court to supply them with witness statements and any other documents needed in the case. The lawyer representing Mr Wokabi’s family, Mr Leonard Shimaka, however, asked the court not to grant the suspects bail, arguing that they are likely to absconded court.Be the first to know about hot news stories when they break.
