After recording his statement with Assistant Inspector General of Police Pius Macharia, at the Regional DCI offices in Mombasa over his alleged fake KCSE certificate, area governor Hassan Joho met his supporters, Wednesday.

He thanked them for their support, and warned that Mombasa was at risk, citing the planned establishment of dry port, in Naivasha.

The Jubilee government announced plans to move port services from Mombasa to Naivasha, after completion of the Standard Gauge Railway. The Opposition is however against this.

''As the residents of Mombasa, we would like to communicate to the rest of Kenya that "Our city is at risk". I wish to reiterate that we stand firm against the privatisation, concession of the Port of Mombasa and the transfer of Port related Services to Naivasha.''

If implemented, Joho said it would lead to the loss of about 10,000 directly employed jobs and over 100,000 port related jobs in transport, clearing, container freight services, loading amongst others.

''Each of these jobs is held by living breathing human being with dependents.''

''Before God and as per my constitutional duty, I will defend my people and my city to the best and last of my abilities,'' he added.

He was accompanied by Kilifi governor Amason Kingi, Siaya senator James Orengo, among others.
