Governor Ali Hassan Joho will lead the opposition supporters and political leaders from the region in demanding for the dissolution of the electoral body accused by the opposition of being too incompetent to oversee a free and fair election.

Mr Joho on Saturday hosted Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) Co-Principal and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to plan how the protests will be conducted.

The anti-IEBC demonstrations, if held, will be the first at the Coastal town.

So far, the counties which have participated in the demos include Nairobi, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Machakos and Migori.

"Today (Saturday), I hosted the Cord principal and Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka in Mombasa County," Joho posted on his official Facebook page.

"Together with other leaders from Mombasa, we held a consultative meeting where we discussed various issues, key among them strengthening of the Cord coalition, agenda for 2017 and the IEBC. We have resolved to hold a peaceful demonstration against the IEBC on Monday starting from 9.30am at Uhuru Gardens in Mombasa."

Among the leaders who attended the meeting included Kitui Governor Julius Malombe and Senators Omar Hassan (Mombasa) and Mutula Kilonzo Jr (Makueni).

Others were MPs Abdulswamad Nassir (Mvita), Hezron Awiti (Nyali), Bady Twalib Bady (Jomvu) and Mombasa Women Rep Mishi Mboko.

Cord is currently holding protests across the country aimed at compelling IEBC Chairman Isaack Hassan and other commissioners leave office.

The opposition says the IEBC is led by corrupt officials who cannot be entrusted with conducting the 2017 elections.

The commission is also accused of being biased towards the ruling Jubilee coalition.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged the opposition to use Parliament in disbanding the electoral body formed during the grand coalition government.
