Jubilee Party supporters in Mombasa on Wednesday took to the streets to protest the alleged revocation of senator aspirant Kassim Abdulsalam’s certificate.
The supporters who camped outside the party offices in Nyali claimed that the certificate was handed to Mombasa Deputy Governor Hazel Katana under unclear circumstances. While chanting anti-Katana slogans, the protesters claimed that Katana who ditched ODM for Jubilee is an opposition mole who is being used by Mombasa Governor Hassan to bring down the Jubilee Party in the county. The protesters who vowed to rethink their political stance vowed to campaign for rival candidates should the party fail to reinstate the candidature of Abdulsalam unconditionally, mediamaxnetwork reports.Jubilee leadership in Mombasa has been shrouded in controversy since the party conducted nominations in April with the issuance of nomination certificates to the winners being the bone of contention.Just recently, supporters of Mvita MP aspirant Omar Shallo threatened to ditch the party should the party fail to issue him with the nomination certificate which was reportedly given to his rival. The latest gridlock over the candidature of Abdulsalam may prove to be the party's latest mistake in their bid to get a chunk of the county's 500,000 votes.
