[Photo|Mombasa County Government Watch]Police in Mombasa have dispersed, by teargassing a section of NASA leaders in Mombasa, during anti-IEBC demonstrations.The leaders were leading the demonstrations, in the CBD, protesting for reforms at the electoral body. Acting Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, announced a ban on protests in CBDs of Mombasa, Nairobi and Kisumu cities, citing destruction of property.Led by MPs Abdulswamad Nassir (Mvita), Badi Twalib (Jomvu), are Senator Mohamed Faki,several MCAs and Deputy Governor William Kingi, the politicians were marching chanting solidarity and anti-Chiloba slogans, across city streets, prompting the armed officers to act, Friday.They had warned that they would go ahead with their protests, in any part of the city, exercising their democratic right.But before they approached IEBC regional offices near Mombasa State Lodge, police lobbed teargas canisters at them, forcing them to flee.The leaders later addressed the press, where they condemned the incident, saying the police should not be used to contravene the law.A contingent of police is manning Mombasa city streets.
