Gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal said Jubilee had gained support in Mombasa expressing confidence President Uhuru Kenyatta will scoop more votes in the county more than he did in 2013.

Shahbal who is vying on a Jubilee Party ticket said NASA leaders worked in previous regimes but failed to address the plight of Coast residents.

“I have been vindicated. Mombasa is Jubilee, although some leaders are still stuck in the past. Let’s move on and usher in an era of prosperity in Mombasa,” he said at Kanzonzo grounds in Kisauni when he hosted Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday.

Ruto was in the county campaigning for President Uhuru Kenyatta and other Jubilee aspirants in Mombasa.

“Our course is the course of the people,” Shahbal said.

“We have started to challenge the people of Mombasa to choose hope, development and prosperity. We have moved to Jubilee because Uhuru and Ruto’s government is a great friend of the Coastal people.”

Despite voting overwhelming for the opposition in 2013, he said, the Jubilee government had shown ambition and efforts in resolving problems affecting Mombasa people.

He singled out the squatter problem, infrastructure, drugs and marginalization as some of the issues Uhuru’s government had helped settle.“A lot still remains to be done, but we can only achieve them if we unite and move in the same direction,” he said.
