Majengo MCA Ahmed Khamis Salim has vowed to push for youth development once the Mombasa County Assembly resumes its sittings on September 26.Salim, popularly known as Nyundo, said youth empowerment programmes are very critical in ensuring youth do not engage in criminal activities.Addressing a youth forum in Majengo, Nyundo said the transformation journey in the ward needs to be all inclusive so that youth are fully involved in development issues. He appealed to youth to shun drugs and criminal activities and instead focus on development issues aimed at uplifting their living standards. The MCA urged youth in the ward to stop relying on handouts, arguing that young people are the ones who will paint a different picture of Majengo.“Majengo is known for criminal activities and drug abuse. However, joint efforts among our youth will help in curbing the menace,” he added.Nyundo urged youth in the county to take advantage of the Revolving Fund launched by the Mombasa County Government, the Youth Enterprise Fund, and Uwezo Fund to start businesses that will improve their living standards.“Intensive and extensive awareness programmes should be initiated so that youth directly benefit from them,” he said.Nyundo promised to work closely with Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir in ensuring various youth programmes are initiated in the ward.
