The new 450 Kilometers oil pipeline from Mombasa to Nairobi is set to be commissioned in December.

According to a local daily, Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has said that the project is 97 percent complete, adding that it will be commissioned before the end of the year.

Keter was speaking during a meeting attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta and several energy sector drivers including Principal Secretaries Eng Joseph Njoroge (Energy) and Andrew Kamau (Petroleum).

According to Keter, the pipeline is expected to ease transport along the Mombasa-Nairobi road.

The project will also facilitate the transportation of products to Nairobi and Kisumu among other areas.

“This will have a great impact. It will ease congestion on Mombasa-Nairobi highway and ensure we have very stable petroleum cover,” CS Keter said during a press briefing, as quoted by Baraka FM.

The CS also revealed that the government has plans of unveiling cheap liquid petroleum gas (LPG) to improve the livelihoods of the residents.

The implementation of the gas project will increase the use of alternative energy.
