Mombasa ODM leaders expressed their anger after three Modern coast buses which were ferrying NASA supporters to Nairobi for Tuesday’s Raila Swearing in ceremony at Uhuru Park were detained by Voi police officers.
Mombasa ODM Chair Mohammed Hattmy said that the move was meant to deny the supporters a chance to participate in the big ceremony where NASA leader Raila Odinga and his purported deputy Kalonzo Musyoka were to be sworn in.
Hattmy said that the action was uncalled for and no doubt the traffic police officers were acting on ‘orders from above’.He said that NASA was not going to relent in quest for justice and ensure that the August 8th, 2017 general election duly elected president Raila Odinga is sworn in.
“We will support Raila Odinga through the people’s assembly until the electoral reforms in the country are attained, no turning back,” said Hattmy.
He said that they will move to Voi Police station and ask for a proper explanation from the OCPD Joseph Chesire on what triggered the action.
On his part, Mombasa county Assembly speaker Kharub Khatri said that they will look for other means so that they ensure their supporters are at Uhuru Park during the swearing in ceremony.
Khatri said that Raila has massive support from the Coast and that the region could not miss such a D-day.
The three Modern Coast buses occupied by NASA supporters according to Chesire were detained because they flouted traffic rules, however he could not specify which rules.
Modern coast management said on Tuesday that their buses had adhered to all traffic rules and that they were fit to be on the road, disputing Chesire’s claims.
