Security officers in Mombasa are on high alert following the emergence of more than 200 juvenile gang members in Likoni. The members of the panga-wielding gangs are reported to have been terrorising residents in the recent past, maiming victims whenever they carry out robberies. The gangs have left residents living in a state of fear as they keep attacking them despite endless warnings from security personnel.Speaking during an interview with The Star on Tuesday, Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich said at least ten ringleaders of the most notorious gangs in the Coastal city have been profiled.Rotich noted that most of the criminals are school dropouts, who abuse drugs.“Most of them have dropped out of school and are hooked on drugs. They are young and dangerous, but we have laid down strategies to deal with them according to the law," said Rotich, as quoted by the local daily. The National Intelligence Service has named Mohammed alias Moody Awori, Alia Kimalo, Hamadi Ali Nassori and Ali alias Killer as the ring leaders of the Wajukuu wa Bibi and Watalia gangs operating in Shika Adabu area.Others on the list of the most wanted suspects are Hamso Shakur, Mapesa Don, Donny Ally and Dara Leckonai.Security agents in the county have said they are considering offering bounties for the suspects as one of the strategies of dealing with the gangs.
